Your Work Environment

Within Group Finance, Reporting Control Management is a corporate department responsible for the Internal Control over Financial and Regulatory Reporting. In this capacity the team is the linking pin between the Group Finance and the other corporate departments, local ING entities and shared service centers. RCM’s key responsibility is empowering ING’s management to be in control over external reporting, in the most effective and efficient way possible. This includes maintaining the day-to-day relationship with the local finance control officers and taking the ownership for the framework and its implementation. The RCM team has a dynamic culture, characterized by open, direct and informal communication, with a focus on team work.

Your Role

As Head RCM you fill a top-level role for ING. Within Group Finance – a broad and vital area of expertise of ING – you are responsible for identifying and (helping) eliminating reporting risks and increasing control awareness within entire organization. You do not only collaborate intensively with direct colleagues within Finance, but also with CFO’s, ORM, CAS and external auditor. You are strongly result oriented in your work and you can count on your substantive knowledge and experience, as well as on your feeling for clients and business. You are capable of approaching issues from a ‘helicopter’ perspective but can also handle issues in detail when necessary. You are independent and dare to speak out.
 

What you’ll do:

  • Leading an international team of 10 Finance experts;
  • Responsible for the global coordination of the internal controls over financial and regulatory reporting (including SOX 404 Sign-Off process within ING Group);
  • Helping entities with the implementation of Minimum Standards regarding internal controls to ensure a sound reporting environment;
  • Investing in Finance community by providing trainings and workshops to a wide group of global finance control officers, incl. organization of yearly Global Control Conferences;
  • Account management of ING’s external auditor, incl. ensuring the independence and monitoring of fees and reporting to Audit Committee;
  • A key member to the Enterprise Risk Management project to create one control framework across ING and ultimately to reduce the control burden across the organisation while still ensuring SOX compliance.
  • Compliance Manager and NFR coordination for Group Finance.

How to succeed:

  • University (WO-level) diploma in (Business) economics or Finance, preferably supplemented by an RA, RC or CA certificate;
  • At least 10 years of work experience in the area of Finance or Risk Management;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of banking business processes including design, implementation and execution of regulatory oversight and knowledge of the relevant (legal) regulations and procedures;
  • Experience with financial statement closing processes, loan loss provisioning and IT General controls;
  • Demonstrated success in leadership and management skills to create and embed a team culture that lives ING’s values;  
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with all levels of management;
  • Actively supports development of the team and self-development;
  • A pro-active attitude and ability to operate in a demanding and changing environment;
  • Drive, commitment, flexibility and enthusiasm are essential;
  • Ability to build bridges and ability to navigate between different levels, different people and different cultures;
  • Organizational sensitivity and effective conflict management skills;
  • Sound problem analysis and judgment skills;
  • Relationship building is key for success in this role, good influencing skills, being assertive without being antagonistic or alienating;
  • Strong communication and persuasion skills and ability to present complex issues in a simple and understandable way to key stakeholders (both in verbal and written communications);
  • You are fluent in English (both writing and speaking);
  • Furthermore, you adhere to the ING values and it is evident for you that your behaviour is fully aligned with the Orange Code.
