Associate M&A Corporate Development in Den Haag

Beschrijving

Corporate Development within Aegon International Holding is responsible for all M&A transactions. The team consists of 11 M&A professionals. The objective of the team is to: Advise Aegon’s management and supervisory board on inorganic and strategic
decisions; Be the first “go to” contact across Aegon for M&A activity and related topics; and  bring complicated transactions to a successful close. The team proactively sources deals and generates new ideas, together with regional and country units.

As associate you will manage a large part of the Mergers & Acquisition process for Aegon. You will maintain contact with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and advisors, in order to deliver progress and quality of the deal and thereby contributing to value adding mergers, acquisitions and divestments for Aegon NV and its subsidiaries.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Gather information, research data on market developments, identify opportunities for M&A by researching public news sources, industry reports and equity research and attending meetings with corporate financial advisors.
  • Contribute and coordinate during the preliminary review of the potential M&A targets by performing quantitative valuation of potential targets using financial models and methods.
  • Coordinate the due diligence process to ensure that all project team members and external counterparts are well informed. Study and analyze the core issues and contribute to the discussion of possible bottlenecks with the M&A targets in order to minimize risk and maximize insight knowledge in the targets and the value of the potential merger or acquisition.
  • In close cooperation with the project team draft memos to inform the Country Unit Board, Management Board and Supervisory Board on the progress and results of M&A projects.

Other relevant information or specific assignments:

  • Associate Corporate Development participates in M&A projects/deals (no project owner). Is the owner of sub-projects (for example: due diligence process, valuation, preparation for post-deal integration).
  • Associate Corporate Development can be reviewed on successfully completing (sub) projects, the quality of presentations / draft memo’s, and the quality of research and financial analysis done.

Requirements
 

As Corporate Development Associate, you are a dedicated team player with above average analytical skills.  You have very strong communication skills with ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders including country unit management and advisors. You are curious and eager to learn.

Moreover, you have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
  • An expert with 1-3 years’ M&A or Corporate Finance experience within an EU or UK (corporate) financial institution or consultancy.
  • A high level of drive, achievement oriented and with a “deal maker” mentality.
  • Experience in dealing with transactional advisers is preferable (can be enhanced and further built via training).
  • Experienced in building financial models to help internal and external stakeholder evaluate opportunities.
  • Excellent people skills, in order to build strong relationships with sourcing parties and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding and knowledge of various M&A transactions.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and ability to negotiate financing structures and transaction documentation.
  • The ideal candidate will be focused on excellence and delivery, resilient and able to work with many and varied deliverables.
  • Fluency in English (both written and oral).
