The Finance Control team is a energetic team of Financial Control experts with a strong focus on mitigating financial reporting risks within ING’s Retail NL organization, the largest Business Line of ING Group. The Finance Control team is part of the Financial Accounting department of Domestic Bank Netherlands. We are expert consultants for over 20 Business Tribes, such as Mortgages, Business Lending, Data Management, Financial Reporting and Credit Risk Management. Within our team we are responsible to make sure that ING Retail NL is in control over the figures in financial reports such as the annual accounts and regulatory reports such as FINREP and Liquidity Reporting. Furthermore, we are constantly investigating opportunities to make the risk process more efficient without losing quality. Our purpose is “simplifying the Risk Journey and leveraging on Best Practices for reliable Financial Reporting, with a data savvy mindset”.

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to assist us with enhancing the finance control framework within ING Retail NL in a data-driven way.

About the work environment
Finance Domestic Bank is responsible for the financial accounting and Statutory/Regulatory reporting of all Retail activities in ING’s home market, totaling to a Balance Sheet of 130 billion euro. The Financial Accounting tribe aims at finding the balance between high speed to continuously deliver on all regulatory changes and an efficient and up-to-standard way of working to process vast data sets according to strict IFRS, Tax and ECB rules.

The Finance Control Team is a high exposure team to multiple tribes and Senior Management. As such, we have a helicopter view on financial reporting activities throughout the Bank and act as linking-pin between finance and the business.

Your role
During this assignment, you will work closely together with our Finance Control experts and Safe Business Officers within the Tribes. You will enhance your risk and control mindset by attending risk assessments and technical work sessions in order to help ING enhance its finance control in a data-driven way. You will assist with monitoring activities, help with questions from the external accountant / supervisory authorities and will be involved in rationalization exercises to streamline the financial control process. This way, you will also get to know the various business processes within ING Retail NL and will get familiar with new technologies such as data visualization and Robotics Process Automation (RPA).

You will be working in a dynamic and agile environment. This internship will bring you the following:

Profile

Note: the Finance Control Team is a high exposure team within the Bank and Senior Management. We are therefore searching for a communicatively strong personality with the following background:

• You are a WO / Master student with a background in Finance, Accounting & Control, Economics, or equivalent
• You take initiative, are driven and feel at home in a high-performing team with a “can-do” mentality
• You have a customer focused and collaborative mindset
• You are open to feedback and not afraid to provide feedback to senior team members
• You have affinity with working with data, for example advanced skills in Excel or using data visualization software like PowerBI
• Excellent verbal and written English and/or Dutch skills
