Intern Finance Information Management in Amsterdam

The Finance Accounting Services team is a team of Financial experts with specialized knowledge in the field of accounting for the different banking products and expense categories within ING’s Retail NL organization, the largest Business Line of ING Group. The Finance Accounting Services team is part of the Financial Accounting department of Domestic Bank Netherlands (DBNL). Within our team we are responsible to make sure that the financial impact of the processes within DBNL are correctly, timely and completely processed in the general ledger, and that this happens in a controlled manner.

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to assist us with enhancing the accounting cycle.

About the work environment
Finance Domestic Bank is responsible for the financial accounting and Statutory/Regulatory reporting of all Retail activities in ING’s home market, totaling to a Balance Sheet of 130 billion euro. The Financial Accounting tribe aims at finding the balance between high speed to continuously deliver on all regulatory changes and an efficient and up-to-standard way of working to process vast data sets according to strict IFRS, Tax and ECB rules.

The basis for all reporting is the General Ledger (GL) .  

Your role
 

Currently we are reviewing our information architecture to become more flexible and efficient. In our new Finance architecture we would like to move back to the original GL account structure and eliminate the existing exceptions. Your assignment would be to investigate the current GL accounts structure, map the existing deviations and create a proposal to move the deviations back into the original structure, in alignment with business and accounting analysts.

To deliver your assignment you will:

  • Investigate the data structure and background of the GL accounting structure

  • Investigate where, and to what level, the current use of the GL accounts deviates from the agreed structure

  • Prepare and present a proposal to eliminate the current exceptions

  • Interact with financial accounting specialists to make sure that, with the proposed solutions, the accounting remains compliant to the guidelines of group and applicable regulators, and material deviations can be explained.

You will be working in a dynamic and agile environment. This internship will bring you the following:

  • Insights into Finance Accounting Services within a large financial institution

  • Insights into business processes, technologies and data analysis

Profile

We are searching for someone with the following skills:

  • You are a student in Business Administration, Business Information Management, Accountancy or other similar area

  • You have strong analytical skills
