Who we are

We’re always looking for new ways to do things faster, better, cheaper. To move out of our comfort zone, even beyond banking, so that we can better serve the needs of customers with solutions that address their challenges.

Empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and business is ING’s purpose and the main driver for ING Labs. We focus on increasing the pace of innovation to serve changing customer needs. The Labs focus on thinking beyond traditional banking to develop new services to take to market.

We will support you in building your initiative by pitching for funding to ING’s Innovation Fund. We tackle the complex and messy process of building solutions by breaking them down into different phases with key validation points. For this we use ING’s innovation methodology, PACE, which builds on Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Agile. Progress is assessed by the Innovation Fund and you pitch for your proposed next steps to be funded.

You will be working in the ING Labs Amsterdam office and/ or remotely in a very international and dynamic environment. The customer drives the ING innovation methodology process (PACE) and you will validate the key assumptions of the proposition and the business along the way.

Your role

The initiative will go through a stage gated innovation process with the goal of creating a new proposition that can  potentially spin into one of ING’s Neo scale-ups. Over 2-3  months, starting as soon as possible, the team will be in the Discovery Phase and subsequently in the Problem Fit phase. To validate the vision, you will align with internal and external sponsors and other ING stakeholders along the journey.

As the Corporate Venture Builder for Housing, you will work together with ~1-2 other team members keeping in mind the next stage gate. Your common goal, as a team, will be to dig further into the problems identified for First-Time Home Buyers, with the aim of leading a potential future ING solution for this market.

The Corporate Venture Builder Housing has the full end to end responsibility of applying and maintaining a Design Thinking approach within the team and ensuring decisions are consistently challenged and backed up by data.

Your will

  • Validate the customer segment and identify your target customers.
  • Work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the problems your target customers are facing.
  • Research competitors and the market landscape, and identify gaps, trends and opportunities.
  • Challenge the data and the team systematically and gather evidence for every assumption.
  • Lead the development of the vision and strategy for the Housing initiative and connect it to ING strategy and market potential.
  • Position the vision within ING and ING Neo and tactically execute on it.
  • Lead the value proposition strategy through the Discovery phase and into the Problem Fit phase and beyond.
  • Establish a value proposition, based on the identified problem
  • Develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) with key features and execute a pilot to prove its value with your target customer
  • Take a disciplined and proactive approach to kill problems or solutions that cannot be validated satisfactorily
  • Present your progress at each stage and pitch for funding to the Innovation Fund.

About you

  • You have a successful track record in sales, relationship management, business development, project and program management, change management, product management or technology development (architecture or technical).
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset combined with experience in large corporate environments.
  • You have experience with Innovation, Design thinking, Agile, Scrum, Lean or PACE.
  • You have in depth knowledge and expertise within the Housing market landscape and First-Time Buyers.
  • You demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills.
  • You demonstrate effective communication skills and a strong business acumen.
  • You are pro-active, independent, curious and able to lead a project in a team setting of ~1-2 people.
  • You demonstrate customer empathy and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • You are an effective communicator with a strong business acumen.
  • You are proficient in English

What we offer

  • An initial 2-3 months assignment based on 36h or 40h /week. The assignment’s renewal is dependent on the stage gate success and will be decided after this initial period.
  • To build a start-up within the ING organization, potentially spinning into an existing business of ING.
  • Support from dedicated professionals like PACE coaches, service designers, UX/UI and Growth support teams
  • Access to key skills and knowledge about products, methods and regulations
  • An open, informal, fun working environment and with own office space for the initiative.
  • Possibility to work remotely during COVID19 until further notice from ING.
  • Fantastic colleagues in cross-functional and multicultural agile teams.
  • Working in an equal, inclusive and diverse workplace.
  • Trainings and workshops.
