The validator fulfills an important role in the risk management process.  A validation expert and able to analyze and critique at least one category of standard risk models (on the content) in order to manage the Banks model risk in the best possible way. Your job

You will be performing simple and standard risk model validations. All modeling documentation and evidence of the historically and expected future model performance as delivered to the validators.In general you will read, understand, and analyze the provided model documentation. Also you will research and critique the underlying model assumptions. Questioning the model developers on the important issues and conduct full validations of simple and more standard models. Understanding the model framework and how these models are used in making business decisions at a basic level is important. As well as writing and presenting (under supervision of a senior Model Validator) the validation report, and validation summaries.

Your working environment

The goal of the Model Validation Department is to limit the model risk of the ABN Amro bank to acceptable levels. This is achieved by (a) developing state of the art validation standards, (b) defining a complete and compliant validation governance, and (c) by performing the actual validations of all of risk models.Furthermore, Model Validation performs as a centre of expertise by sharing knowledge on modeling, validation and regulatory compliancy with all our shareholders both risk departments as business and external regulators.

Your profile

University level in a quantitative background (math, physics, econometrics or related disciplines) at least at MSc level but strongly preferred is at PhD Level or other additional education. Grades should be good.  For the Model Validator I role, specific work experience in banking is not strictly necessary but up to 3 years is preferred. In case work experience is available previous roles in risk management  besides validation, like modelling, ALM, or pricing are strongly preferred.Check your profile:- Experience with programming tools, e.g., at least one of the following: SAS, STATA, Excel, Matlab, Visual Basic. Preferably more than one.- Model Validator I shows some understanding of risk management practices within the financial services industry especially in modelling. And is analytical strong and has good problem solving skills.- The Model Validator I should be able to show he/she is keen on working in financial institution and has an eye for detail.- Able to work independently.- Good written and oral communication skills in English and good level of understanding and speaking of Dutch (or willing to learn).- Model Validator I should show good social skills. He/she is able (and likes) to give presentations on complex topics for a broad audience. He/she is able to work proactively in a project group (as a participant), is able to obey deadlines while still delivering high quality.
