Job description
As a financial risks expert, your aim is to gain an in-depth understanding of the financial risks that the supervised bank is exposed to, and your ongoing challenge is to identify and mitigate them in good time. You will be working as a member of a joint supervisory team (JST); JST’s are made up of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) staff, European Central Bank (ECB) staff and professionals from other euro area countries.
As a financial risk expert, your principal responsibilities include:
You possess excellent analytical skills and you are a quick learner. You are able to separate the essentials from secondary issues. You communicate clearly and look beyond superficial answers; you are able to hold your ground in difficult discussions without jeopardising the relationship. In case of doubt, you insistently continue to ask questions until everything is clear. You are sensitive to the connection between what you do and the outcome you aim to achieve.
The European Banks Supervision division (EUBA) supervises those banks in the Netherlands for which the European Central Bank (ECB) bears ultimate supervisory responsibility. The national supervisory authorities carry out the main part of supervisory activities. As a supervisor, you are working close to the heart of the economy, contributing to financial stability and sustainable prosperity in the Netherlands. The division currently employs some 75 professionals across five supervision departments. Cooperation is crucial, with you being a member of a multidisciplinary team of economists, lawyers, auditors, econometricians and IT specialists. The atmosphere is one of openness and team play, and the culture is characterised by drive and professionalism.
Working for the Single Supervisory MechanismDNB is an integral part of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), composed of the European Central Bank and national competent authorities of 19 Euro area countries. Working for the SSM comprises working for short periods of time abroad in the context of regular business travels, trainings or on-site visits. This is an important characteristic of our jobs complemented by an environment in which wellbeing/work-life balance is enabled. Working for the SSM also implies collaborating in multi-national and -cultural teams and in the context of different national frameworks. Therefore a strong ability to use other EU working languages for business purposes is an asset.
